Teddy Bear Hospital:

Teddy Bear Hospital aims to introduce local school children aged from 5-8 years to the hospital environment and to raise awareness about basic health and hygiene issues. The children are invited to bring a teddy bear (suffering from an illness of the child’s choice) to a simulated hospital ward. Students role-play as ‘Teddy Bear Doctors’ and give the bear a consultation to provide basic, non-invasive treatment whilst interacting with the children to alleviate any existing fears of hospital environments and heath care staff.
Those who work at the Teddy Bear Hospital events have a unique opportunity to gain clinical paediatric experience and all in all, the programme is a day of fun and learning for all of the children and helpers who participate in it.
The ultimate aim is to help young children overcome their anxiety of going to and talking to the doctor, i.e. "White Coat Anxiety".
